what I have l learned this year
The new year is always a great time to reflect. And always take the moment to do so when you can.
#trigger warning, this blog post is a little cheesy
What is the goal? always go back to this question.
What is my goal? What is your goal? Do we have a mutual goal? Can we find a common ground?
A company culture cannot be defined by guiding principals.
But they can help. The same goes for a leadership style, it cannot be defined in a pleasant sentence. That being said, transparency, clarity, and kindness (and fun!) is how I would define my leadership style.
Be authentic. Be humble. Be human. And respect those you work with.
It is almost like the golden rule. Remember to be yourself and human. And remember that everyone is working hard. I keep reminding myself to stay grounded and humble because the more successful you are, the easier it becomes to let it get to your head (shoutout to Kendrick Lamar for bringing this realization to me).
Surround yourself with people that you have fun with and that make you better.
There is the age old leadership style to “hire people smarting then you.” I fully subscribe to this idea. I have loved the people I work with everywhere I have worked and that is a special thing. There are great people in hospitality.
There are consequences to everything
Or said differently, all actions have a reaction. This is a universal truth. Slowdown before big decisions, think through the potential consequences and reactions. Make sure you are making the right choice and then … make the decision and take accountability for your (and your team’s) decision.
everyday you are making a decision.
Rules are meant to be broken, carefully :)
